Description:
GOLD COAST GOJU KARATE PHILOSOPHY

At Gold Coast Goju Karate we teach basic life skills that challenge our students throughout not only their Martial Arts training, but also their everyday lives. Junior students are taught to be respectful and polite toward their parents, siblings, teachers, elders and to those less fortunate than themselves. They are also taught the importance of education, and doing their best in school.

Our teenage and young adult students are taught to set achievable goals and that hard work does have its rewards. Through Karate, they become more confident and develop an attitude of self-reliance. This increase in confidence enables them to better cope with issues of peer pressure to be leaders rather than followers and helps them make correct choices.

VisitIKGA Gojuryu Karate do) Japan Popular Last Update: 2013/5/18 5:07
Description:
The Goju- kai founder, Gogen Yamaguchi Sensei who learned under Chojun Miyagi Sensei unified the essential lecture points of All Japan Karate-do Federation Goju-kai.
The present successor, Grandmaster Goshi Yamaguchi improved those lecture points to nurture our spirits, our Ki and our body.

Goju-kai holds seminars for high graders (over 5 Dan), seminars for instructors, seminars for black belts, other seminars and classes at each dojo.
Goju-ryu also has classes for elders to study their health improvement and breathing method of Karate-do at community colleges.

The contents of practices is not only learning competitive Karate techniques, but also learning seekers' mind to enjoy Karate for our whole life.
We want people to learn common sense through group activities and to know the meanings of improving themselves and challenge through participating in competitions.

Goju-kai's basic training begins with making fists, preparing and kicking.
Then we start seven basic kinds of training; Tachikata, Kamaekata, Ukekata, Tsukikata, Uchikata, Atekata and Kerikata.

There are two basic Wazas; one is used for Kata and the other is used for Jiyu-kumite.
Also, there are two kinds of foot movements; one is Unsoku for basic movement and the other is Tenshin and Sabaki, for Kumite.

There are four types of Katas, Kihon-kata, Fukyu-kata, Kaishu and Tokutei-kata.
Sanchin and Tensho are Kihon-kata. Sometimes, Tensho is done after Kaishu-kata because it is recognized as Kaishu-kata.

In Goju-kai, Kihon-kata consists of a pair of Go Waza, or hardness and Jyu Waza, or softness.
Fukyu-kata consists of 10 variations of Taikyoku no Kata and Gekisai 1 and 2.
Kaishu-kata consists of Saifa, Seienchin, Seipai, Sanseiru, Shisochin, Kururunfa and Suparinpei.
Tokutei-kata, which consists of Genkaku, Chikaku and two other kinds, are prohibited from being given any instructions to students and used at competitions.

There are various kinds of practice methods as follows, Kihon-kumite, Yakusoku-kumite and Jiyu-kumite.
All Kumites are pair practices and we need to give attention to basics, timing, distance and more difficult techniques in the practice.

To understand Kata, there are two methods that are Katabunkai-kumite and Bunkaikata-kumite. On Katabunkai-kumite practice, we make Katas divided and learn the meaning of each movement.
Bunkaikata-kumite is a practical training method carried out through a sequence of performance of all Katas from Gekisai.

The important things are building basic strength and breathing.
We need to find out our own training method to build strength suitable for Karate-do, although we can improve basic strength through daily Kata practice.
The basic strength is muscular strength, endurance and flexibility to sustain hard Karate practice and it is better to add some assistance exercises to our curriculum to nurture our bones.

The breathing method is called Ibuki, and expressed In, Yo and Han In Yo doing conscious abdominal breathing.
We can perform by doing Ju-ho, Go-ho, Goju-ho and Seido-ho.

Concentration on movements and breathing leads to Kiko practice.

Sanchin and Tensho are said Ritsuzen, and a standing posture with Sanchin-dachi and breathing leads to a mental state of Tenchi-jin that is the best state of Goju-ryu.

VisitKachi Karate Hawaii Popular Last Update: 2012/9/11 12:39
Description:
Kachi Karate was established in 1999 by the founder and President, Sensei Robert Koncal in Europe – Slovakia. After several years, it became the biggest karate dojo in Slovakia. Many of the Kachi students participate in the most prestigious karate tournaments around the world. They have achieved many local, national, and international titles. Since Kachi Karate has started, we have produced many National, European, and World medalists and champions.

The name Kachi means to win, which is part of our dojo philosophy. “Everyone can become a winner!” At our dojo, winning is not the most important criteria. Our goal is to help every student build self confidence and improve every aspect of their life. At Kachi Karate, we teach traditional Goju-Ryu karate. The Goju-Ryu style of karate is one of the four major styles of karate in the world which is also recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

Our school is a part of Seiwakai Karate which is one of the strongest Goju-Ryu karate groups in Japan and also around the world. We are also affiliated with JKF Goju-Kai, which is all of the Goju-Ryu organizations in Japan. Being a part of these organizations, our students have the privilege to train with the finest Japanese Goju-Ryu instructors. Our Slovakian branch is also a part of the EKF (European Karate Federation) and WKF (World Karate Federation) which are both affiliated to the IOC.

Owner, Sensei Robert Koncal, founded Kachi Karate in 1999. He is the Chief Instructor of the Kachi Karate schools and has over 25 years of experience. Sensei Koncal started practicing karate at the age of seven and after a few years of training he was chosen to compete in an Inter-Dojo kumite competition. He won all his matches and became the champion which sparked an interest into his competitive career. Since that moment he continued to train rigorously which resulted in capturing numerous titles and becoming multiple National Kumite and Kata Champion.

At the age of 16, he represented his home country of Slovakia at the World Karate Federation (WKF) - World Karate Cup and earned a silver medal in kata (forms). During the six years of being a Slovakian National Team Member, he placed 4th in the World and European Championships. In 2002, he was invited and had the opportunity to compete in the AAU/USA & USANKF National Championships where he received a gold and silver respectively.

After an injury which ended his sports career at a young age of 22, he directed his love and passion of karate and competitions to coaching. With his newly established Kachi dojo, he was able to guide many of his students to National and International Championship titles. With the exceptional results of his students, his high quality and professionalism of teaching, and years of experience and knowledge, he was asked to become a National Coach for the Slovak Junior and Senior Teams. Coming on board with the coaching staff, his expertise helped the national team to earn a WKF World Championship title, WKF European Championship titles and many other results in prestigious competitions. In 2006~2008, he had the honor in being named the “Most Successful Coach” for his dojo being ranked #1, and also awarded “Coach of the Year.” In 2010 he relocated to Hawaii to expand his Kachi dojo and spread his love of karate to the people of Hawaii.

VisitSuigetsu Ryu Karate Jutsu – Brisbane Popular Last Update: 2012/8/11 7:33
Description:
Chris McKenna 4th Dan Gojuryu Karate do Seiwakai, chief instructor has over 20 years of martial arts experience. This development, which includes spending at least one month a year in Japan (on occassions as a live-in student), has lead to our unique understanding of Japanese culture and martial history, as well training philosophies and practical application.

The benefit of this is that we have forged strong relationships with vastly capable and qualified teachers in both Australia and Japan (and Okinawa). With a strong and ongoing background in goju ryu karate, taijutsu, hishigijutsu, bojutsu and iaido, we have the breadth of diversity to teach fighting principles through a range of training methods. Put simply, we have the skills and experience necessary to develop students in a holistic and practical manner and ensure we challenge peoples variety of individual needs.

Training is mainly focussed on Goju Ryu Karate, aligning with the Japan Karatedo Federation Gojukai. We also practice a unique form of Taijutsu – Shinto Tenshin Ryu. In addition, we practice kobudo, mainly consisting of Hishigijutsu from Asayama Ichiden Ryu. We are primarily an adult-based group and encourage participation by people of all experience levels.

Our aim is to develop people who persevere with strength, confidence and a positive perspective. Our purpose is to enhance physical and mental capacity and encourage courtesy, respect, etiquette and humility. Through intense physical and mental training, we encourage people to better understand and challenge their own limits and hope these lessons can be applied in everyday life.

‘Suigetsu Ryu’ translated from Japanese means ‘water moon school’, although a more appropriate interpretation is ‘the moon reflected on water school’. This name is derived from a Zen Buddhist classic and is appropriate for our school of karate jutsu.

Description:
The Heijoshin Karate Dojo teaches traditional Goju Ryu Karate and is a member of the Japan Karate Federation Goju Kai under the Seiwa Kai organization. The name Heijoshin literally means "everyday spirit", implying that what the student learns in the Dojo transfers directly into their everyday life. Goju Ryu, literally "the way of hard and soft" is one of the four main styles of Japanese/Okinawan karate and is known and respected throughout the world.

The Dojo is a place of experiential learning. The body and mind will learn many lessons through training. It is important to retain the concept of "beginner's mind" to remain open to the process. The knowledge is both empirical and experiential and all start at the bottom. Men and women do equally well in our art and are treated equally. It is important to leave the ego at the door upon bowing into the Dojo.

There is a level of commitment and seriousness that defines the study of any martial art. Every aspect of your training should be approached with mature consideration. The traditional martial arts, while teaching you to effectively defend yourself, are as concerned with the quality of your character as with the power of your techniques. Interestingly, the two seem to go hand-in-hand. With power we learn respect and responsibility so we do not misuse that power. Being tough is one thing; being tough and having good character is a benefit to society.

Welcome to our website and thank you for your interest. Please feel free to observe a class or schedule an appointment to discuss your training goals and how we might help you achieve them. I hope you will enjoy karate training for many years, and that your experience will be as rewarding as my own.

Whilst doing Judo Karate caught his attention, this was 1974 and Paul joined the karate class at the back of the hall. 6 months later he saw an advert in the local paper for Goju Ryu and he immediately changed to Goju there and then. Paul studied for 20 years in the IOGKF under the tutelage of Morio Higaonna and gained 5th Dan in 1993. 32 years after starting karate, Paul said 'I am still learning' and have found a wealth of knowledge with my current instructors since 1994, Leo Lipinski, Fujiwara, Tasaki and other fine instructors like Shiomi, Murumatsu, Kiyohara etc.
